Components

• Fetal model with placenta and umbilical cord: Placental disc with three-vessel cord (two umbilical arteries, one vein) and Wharton’s jelly—for counselling on cord clamping, nuchal cord explanation, and placental circulation.

• Newborn model: Full-body neonatal form for demonstrations of thermal care (skin-to-skin), positioning, basic cord care, bathing, swaddling, and caregiver handling.

• Female bony pelvis model: Innominate bones, sacrum, coccyx, ischial spines, pubic arch—for obstetric mechanics (inlet/outlet planes, engagement, station, and cardinal movements).

Learning objectives

• Explain fetoplacental circulation and principles of delayed cord clamping and cord care.

• Demonstrate mechanism of labour: fetal lie, presentation, occiput positions, and internal rotation relative to pelvic landmarks.

• Teach immediate newborn care: warmth, airway positioning (neutral), breathing observation, colour/tone review, and safe handling.

• Support antenatal classes on birth preparedness, normal vs assisted delivery discussion, and early postnatal care.

• Models in medical-grade PVC for repeated class use; wipe-clean surfaces; stable bases where applicable.
