Clinical use
Dual-sex urethral catheterization trainers for teaching Foley and intermittent catheterization. Cross-sectioned pelvic anatomy provides direct visualization of the urethra, bladder neck, prostate (male), and female urethral meatus to reinforce safe technique and troubleshooting. Instructional simulators; not medical devices.
Training objectives
Aseptic setup, draping, analgesia/lubrication, catheter selection (12–18 Fr).
Male: navigation of penile → bulbar → membranous → prostatic urethra, recognition of external urethral sphincter resistance, advancement into the bladder before balloon inflation.
Female: accurate identification of the urethral meatus vs vaginal introitus, short urethral passage, correct depth before inflation.
Verification of intravesical placement, connection to closed drainage, fixation, removal, and intermittent catheterization workflow.
Complication avoidance: false passage, urethral trauma, hemorrhage, catheter-associated UTI prevention counselling.
